Which Business to Start in Bishkek: What 285 Sale Listings Show
Which sectors are most often for sale in Bishkek, what it costs to enter them, and how to choose between starting from scratch, buying an existing business and taking a franchise.
Short answer. No business is profitable for everyone: the right choice depends on your budget and experience. According to our data, the most affordable way in is food service and retail: half of the existing cafes and food outlets in the InvestHub catalogue are for sale at 250,000–520,000 som. But these are also the most competitive sectors, so start by testing a specific location and the demand there.
Which sectors come up most often
Data from the InvestHub catalogue as of 7 November 2026. Nearly all of the 285 business-for-sale listings are in Bishkek.
| Sector | Listings | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Food service | 119 | 42% |
| Retail | 60 | 21% |
| Services | 30 | 11% |
| Beauty and health | 12 | 4% |
| IT and technology | 9 | 3% |
| Sports and leisure | 8 | 3% |
How to read this. The table shows what is sold most often, not what pays best. Many listings in a sector can mean it is easy to enter, or that people often leave it. These figures say nothing about profitability.
What your budget can buy
A guide based on sellers' asking prices, showing the middle half of listings with a stated price.
| Budget | What the catalogue offers |

Start from scratch, buy, or take a franchise
| Option | Pros | Cons | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| From scratch | Everything built your way; you can start small | Slow launch; demand is untested | People with experience in the sector and time |
| Existing business | Customers, team and location already in place | You need to check why it is being sold | People who want a quick start and are prepared to do checks |
| Franchise | Brand, manuals, training | Royalties and the franchisor's rules | People new to the sector who are willing to follow a system |
How to test an idea before you invest
- Count the footfall. Stand near your future location at different times and count passers-by and the customers going to neighbouring businesses.
- Add up the costs. Rent, wages, purchasing, taxes. Work out how much monthly revenue you need to break even.
- Build in a cushion. Set aside money for several months of operating without a profit.
- Start small. Try selling through social media, from a market stall or in a small format before signing a long lease.
- Choose a tax regime. The rate depends on the type of activity and the form of payment (overview of rates). Check your own rate with an accountant.
What about outside Bishkek?
Almost all the existing businesses in our catalogue are in the capital, so we have no comparable data for other cities. InvestHub currently lists 32 investment projects in Osh: to see which sectors are developing there, visit the Osh projects section. Before launching in a region, check local demand on the ground.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most profitable business in Bishkek?
There is no reliable public data on profitability by sector. Profit depends more on location, rent and management than on the sector itself. Ask sellers and franchisors for real figures and verify them.
How much money do I need to start?
The catalogue includes existing food outlets from a few hundred thousand som. Starting from scratch in services or online is possible with less, but work out the costs for your own situation.
